The Seattle-Tacoma Box Company Legacy Foundation, established in 2024, reflects a long tradition of family, community, and stewardship rooted in the Pacific Northwest. Born out of the vision and commitment of the Nist family, the Foundation builds on many generations of history shaped by the Seattle-Tacoma Box Company. Since 1889, the company has proudly remained family-owned, working alongside farmers, fishermen, and countless industries to deliver innovative packaging solutions. Today, with operations spanning five states, Seattle-Tacoma Box Company continues to honor its heritage of resilience and service while embracing the future.
Born from the Nist family’s wish to give back to local communities.
The Legacy Foundation emerged from the Nist family’s shared desire to deepen their impact and give back to the communities that have sustained them for generations. Initial conversations during a 2016 family retreat inspired a unified commitment to community giving, which was first advanced through a philanthropic partnership with the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation.

Over the following years, the family piloted their charitable efforts, learning, growing, and aligning their giving with community needs. In 2024, these efforts culminated in the launch of the Seattle-Tacoma Box Legacy Foundation—a dedicated corporate foundation that now serves as a central platform for advancing the family’s values, deepening community partnerships, and ensuring that future generations continue to invest in the people and places that have contributed to the company’s success.
